Weekend Road Work Could Cause Traffic Headaches

VIENNA Va. (WUSA) -- Two of the three lanes along Eastbound I-66 will be closed between Nutley Street and the Beltway starting Friday from 7pm until 5am Monday. It's all part of a lane shift to new bridges.

For many Virginians, this is a major corridor into the District.

"You can have 4,000 vehicles an hour coming through here during big weekends," said Steve Titunik, VDOT Spokesperson for Virginia Mega Projects.

This weekend, 4,000 Vehicles an hour on one lane, not very likely. The best advice from VDOT is to avoid the area altogether or be prepared for some major delays, delays of up to one hour.

"You can go to Route 50, they can go to any of the connecting roads leading to I-66 and find other ways into DC," Titunik described.

Fairfax Police say 39-year-old John E. Hamilton was arrested Wednesday by the Polish Border Guard as he attempted to cross into the Czech Republic.   Efforts are now underway to have him extradited back to the United States.

Hamilton faces two counts of aggravated sexual batter of a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of crimes against nature with a minor.  All the alleged crimes took place in Fairfax County.

In 2009, a 24-year-old man came forward and accused Hamilton of committing the acts twelve years earlier.  Hamilton was a little league baseball coach for the Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association at that time.

17 Year-Old Was Helping A Neighbor

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA (WUSA)--A Fairfax High School student pruning a neighbor's tree was electrocuted when one of the branches fell onto a nearby power line. The victim was just 17 years old and lived in Fairfax with his parents and three siblings.

By the time the Fairfax City Fire Department arrived on the scene, it was too late. The teenager had been working roughly ten feet from a power line.

"When we arrived, he was still suspended from the tree about 20 feet off the ground," said Chief Tim Butters of the Fairfax City Fire Department.
