Winter Workout Tips to Keep You Motivated

With winter creeping up on us, it means shorter daylight time and colder temperatures. For many people, it will also be a time of the year when their physical activity efforts dip. People often reduce the amount of time they spend being physically active over the winter, usually due in part to it being so cold outside. Add to that the lack of motivation that people have during the darker, colder months, and it’s a recipe for disaster. The good news is that there are things people can do to help stay motivated to keep moving all winter long.

Carmello’s and Monza of Historic Manassas, Va. are asking the public to drop off non-perishable foods at their restaurants to support SERVE of Manassas, Va., a local homeless shelter, now through Nov. 30. Each person that brings in at least five cans, will get one voucher for 10 percent off their next individual meal at Carmello’s or Monza, good through Dec. 31, 2018. “Thanksgiving for us, is a time to give back,” said Alice Pires, owner of Carmello’s and Monza of Historic Manassas, Va. “We appreciate the public helping us make Thanksgiving that much more abundant for those in need,” said Pires.

Metropolitan School of the Arts to Perform Nutcracker Dec. 1, Dec. 2 in Annandale

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Va. will present their annual MSA Nutcracker on Fri., Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 2 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.at the Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center, Annandale Campus at 8333 Little River Turnpike. Nutcracker ticket prices range from $26 to $28 and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.

Audiences can join Clara and her Nutcracker in a magical journey from her Victorian home through the Land of Snow and into the Land of Sweets. The performance features a larger-than-life Christmas tree, more than 100 dancers, and Tchaikovsky’s glorious score.

The second season will feature eight parts that are one hour each, and will begin on November 10, 2017 on Velocity at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. with re-airs on Saturdays at 10 a.m. EST. ToyMakerz is for those who like exotic, rare toys of the vehicular variety. Driven by the life and creations of David Ankin, owner of ToyMakerz, the series follows his team as they bring unrivaled ingenuity and a unique skill set to motorized builds for a wide array of customers. The show made a big impact during its first season, as people get an adrenaline rush out of watching the show’s star, David Ankin design, build, and drive to excess the creations anybody would love to have.

How Much Do We Know About What a Veteran Is?

EOD Warrior Foundation reminds us that veterans are an eclectic group

With Veteran’s Day around the corner, it’s a great time to consider those who have fought for our continued freedom. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are roughly 18.5 million veterans in the country. Do you really know what a veteran is? The more we learn about this unique group, the more we become aware of the diversity that our nation’s veterans represent.

“Veterans have served our country proudly, and have ensured our freedom endures,” explains Nicole Motsek, executive director of the EOD Warrior Foundation. “Veterans are made up of a diverse group of servicemen and women, representing every aspect of this country.”
