Planning Ahead - Four Fun-Filled Ways to Help EOD Veterans in 2017

Planning Ahead - Four Fun-Filled Ways to Help EOD Veterans in 2017

A new year brings new opportunities and new challenges. It also marks the 16th year that our nation has been at war. Many of our military remain deployed with their families left behind to hold the fort down. During these extended deployments, emergencies happen and it is important that our nonprofits fill the gaps that our government does not. One small elite branch of our military is the 7,000 members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)/Bomb Disposal community. This profession is literally the most dangerous job in the world and like most elite military communities; the EOD community is supported by a nonprofit organization called the EOD Warrior Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to improve the quality of life for the EOD family by providing emergency financial relief, scholarship opportunities, physical, social, and emotional support.

EOD Warrior Foundation has stepped in to help an EOD veteran’s family who lost almost everything they had in a house fire

According to the National Fire Protection Association, there were 365,000 home fires in 2015, totaling around $7 billion in damage. After losing almost everything, except for some personal items, to a home fire in August 2016, one veteran reached out to the EOD community for assistance, discovering that the organization had their back more than they could have imagined.

There are 7,000 men and women known as EOD technicians, performing the most dangerous job in our military. EOD stands for Explosive Ordnance Disposal, otherwise known as Bomb Disposal. EOD technicians are highly-trained military members serving in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force and are responsible for disarming, rendering safe, and disposing of bombs. These brave men and women willingly put themselves in harms ways to protect the lives and property of others. Their service includes support to the most complex special operations missions. In current conflicts, bombs known as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are responsible for the majority of fatalities and severe injuries to our troops.

Guardians of Rescue Takes Risks to Rescue Soldier’s Pets in the Middle East

Animal rescue group is working to relocate military pets in the Middle East to America

There are thousands of American soldiers who are serving in the Middle East. Many of them find stray cats and dogs which become their pets. They create bonds, as the soldiers all chip in to care for the adopted pets. Now, those relationships are in jeopardy, because the pets hanging around military bases in the Middle East have been dubbed as “pests” by the Middle Eastern local authorities, and there are plans for their extermination. The soldiers, wanting to save their beloved pets, reached out to Guardians of Rescue to see if they could help relocate them back to America where they will be waiting for them when they return.
