Officials: Grandmother Was Carrying Child Before Throwing Her | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- The investigation on the grandmother, who police say threw her 2-year-old granddaughter off of a mall garage walkway, has revealed few details on what lead to the horrific event Monday night.
Police and the Fairfax Commonwealth Attorney's office are looking at surveillance video taken that evening at Tysons Corner mall, from every angle, to try to rule out all other possibilities of how the toddler, Angelyn Ogdoc, may have fallen off the walkway.
Ogdoc's grandmother, Carmela Dela Rosa, has no previous criminal record, according to the commonwealth attorney's office. However, they say they have been told she had some history of mental illness.
Dela Rosa was walking behind the rest of the family on the way out of the mall Monday night, carrying Angelyn in her arms, the Commonwealth Attorney's office tells 9News Now.
There was no known argument that lead up to the incident, nor was there any warning when it happened, officials tell 9News Now.
The Commonwealth Attorney could raise charge to first degree if they
determine premeditation. He is expected to try
the case himself.
Dela Rosa faces a life sentence if she's tried and convicted of first degree murder.
A trial date could be set for March.
