Veteran Wellness Center Wins Multiple Chamber of Commerce Awards

Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness announces two awards from the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce. The awards for Nonprofit of the Year and the Small Business of the Year were presented at the 21st Annual event at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Virginia.

“Not only did we win the nonprofit category of the year, but we also won the small business of the year,” explains Ken Falke, chairman and founder of Boulder Crest Retreat. “This is the first time in 21 years of this event that a nonprofit won the small business category. We are thrilled to have these honors and appreciate that our great work is being noticed by our community.”

Boulder Crest Retreat is a program for military combat veterans and their family members. They go to the mountain retreat for a week for intense therapy that includes such things as yoga, equine therapy, art, music, meditation, recreational therapies, nature time, and more. The program is free of charge for 2-7 nights at the 37-acre retreat.

Since opening in September of 2013, the rurally located retreat has hosted over 1600 veterans and their family members, with plans of helping an average of 700 personnel each year. Their long-term plans include opening up 10 additional locations around the nation focused on innovative and effective combat-stress recovery programs. Many combat veterans and their family members suffer from such issues as post-traumatic stress disorder, combat-related stress, brain trauma, and difficulty transitioning into civilian life. The Retreat programs helps to improve physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic well being.

“These awards are a testament to our entire team’s hard work, generosity, and dedication to our cause. These awards are for everyone who helps make this retreat what it is,” added Falke. “We are humbled and honored to receive them. Thank you all for helping to recognize Boulder Crest Retreat as a special and deserving place to heal our heroes, one family at a time.”

The Retreat welcomes combat veterans who are active-duty, reserve and National Guard, veterans, family members and caregivers, and Gold Star Families. Boulder Crest Retreat is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that is funded entirely by private donations by individuals and organizations from around the country.
