LEARNINGRX OF NO. VA. DONATES 20,000 LEGOS TO AUTISM SOCIETY OF NO. VA.

More than 20,000 Legos were donated to the Autism Society of Northern Virginia by local LearningRx brain training centers in Leesburg, Fairfax, Reston and Vienna, Va., and LearningRx directors committed to trekking a 10-foot “LEGO® Walk of Fire” in bare feet upon meeting their 20K Lego goal. “We’re grateful to the community to help us support autism awareness and surpassed our Lego goal,” said Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Reston and Vienna, Va. “Our Lego Walk of Fire was everything you’d expect…it was painful, but fun…the key is to walk quickly,” said Loftus.

ASNV provides LEGO®- based activities at various campaigns, but currently have to rent LEGO®s for these events. With enough LEGO®s, ASNV could have their own set of LEGO®s to be used for all of their autism outreach programs.

Local Native American Group Announces Grant Match to Build Indian Village in Loudoun County, VA

Community leaders Ken and Julia Falke came forward this week providing a local Native American Indian organization $7,500 as a match to state and local grants. This grant is for a new artist residency-/-preK-12 school program called Art in Nature™ facilitated by the not-for-profit group Sanctuary on the Trail™, and involves a host of artists and volunteers teaching children to raise an Indian village in Bluemont, Virginia. The group is working in partnership with the Village Montessori School (VMS) at Bluemont, the Bluemont Citizens Association, and the Bluemont Fair Committee.

“Children in our community are very important to us and we look forward to seeing the results of this effort. Our family’s philanthropy is dedicated to military and veteran wellness and the children in our local community,” said Julia Falke. Mrs. Falke is the co-founder of Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness in Bluemont, Va.

LEARNINGRX of No. Virginia Announces Winners of President’s Day Contest

Three local students, Reese Bowen, 11, of Leesburg, Va., Mateo Murguia, 9, from Alexandria, Va., and Daniel Pavolic, 13 of Waterford, Va., earned first place for reciting the U.S. Presidents in order in less than a minute at their local LearningRx brain training centers in Leesburg, Va. Tysons Corner, Va. and Reston, Va., respectively, as part of LearningRx’s annual Presidents Day contest. The U.S. President recitation is a memory-enhancement exercise that helps LearningRx students increase their short-term and long-term memory. For more information, go to www.learningrx.com

Bowen of Leesburg, Va. was able to recite all U.S. Presidents in order, in only nine seconds.

The contest is designed to encourage kids across the country to create videos that demonstrate the memory and focus skills they improved with LearningRx brain training.
