Favorite Restaurant

So, I have been in Chicago for the past few days getting out and checking out the sites - it is crazy how much that town has changed since I lived there. It’s always good to get back to my roots and the food there – unreal. I forget how many great restaurants there are out there and that is probably because I spend my life in one. So, I need some help. I don’t have much time to get out so I need some recommendations for some of Virginia and DC’s best restaurants. Any type of food, any type of ambiance – I just want to know what the next place is that I should try. Hook a brother up.

Also, in case you want to follow me further, check out my blog at http://stevenlukisblog.wordpress.com/. Look forward to seeing you there.

Bluemont Hosts Its 41st Annual Country Fair This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, the Bluemont Cititzens Association invites "neighbors" from surrounding communities to join them for a country fair. The fair, a tradition of 41 years, is held in the center of Bluemont, a quaint and delightful village in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

The fair offers more than thirty types of attractions and is sure to please everyone in your family. You'll find juried crafters and live demonstrations of historic crafts. Ladies from towns all around will bring home-baked goods to please your palate, and there are even pie and pickle—yes, I said pickle—making contests. There is an abundance of live music, and your children will also be entertained with games and fun especially for them.

Firefighters Surpass MDA Collection Goal

Did you see Firefighters collecting cash and change in fire boots last weekend? Did you donate any funds? If so, you were helping Fairfax County Fire and Rescue exceed their goal in raising funds to fight Musclar Dystrophy!

This was sent to us by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department:

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department firefighters handily exceeded their goal of collecting $475,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and the "Fill the Boot" campaign over the Labor Day weekend. Firefighters, the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2068, and the Department of Public Safety Communications personnel collected more than $561,000, taking in more donations than any fire service organization in the country, surpassing the Houston Fire Department, last year's top collector.

Reflections of You Salon in Fairfax Shows Appreciation for School Staff

The Reflections of You salon and spa in Fairfax, VA is doing something special in this back-to-school season. They have given away 13 gift certificates so far to teachers and staff at various elementary and high schools for a welcome back.

The co-owner of Reflections of You, David Plum, is a teacher himself at Lake Braddock in Burke, VA. He has been providing teachers and other staff at schools gift cards for 3 years at the beginning and end of the year as a sign of appreciation for what they do day in and day out. Plum shared that this year alone, Reflections of You supplied over 1200 $20 gift cards and 13 $50 gift cards for school staff in the area.

Plum suffered from a serious ankle injury a few years ago, and spent a lot of time in the hospital. This led him to another idea.
