Depression Screening for Older Adults

Depression Screening for Older Adults

From Fairfax County:

Do you ever wonder if you might have bouts of sadness that are especially hard to get over?  Do your family members worry about you and tell you that you might be depressed?  You probably know that everyone experiences sadness in life, disappointments, and the grief that accompanies the loss of a loved one, but depression is different.  People who are sad can generally continue their daily routines and activities.  But serious depression is a medical illness that interferes with a person’s ability to function as they normally do.

Utilities Department Reduces Fluoride Level to Reflect New Federal Recommendations

Utilities Department Reduces Fluoride Level to Reflect New Federal Recommendations

From the City of Fairfax:

FAIRFAX, Va. — In response to a new federal study on acceptable levels of fluoride in drinking water, the City of Fairfax Utilities Department has reduced the fluoride level in the water treated at Goose Creek Water Treatment Plant that is distributed to city water customers.

Beginning January 18, the city reduced the ratio of fluoride in city water to .7 parts per million gallons of water (ppm).  This is a decrease from 1 ppm, a limit endorsed by the American Dental Association, and well within the .7-1.2 ppm range in the current federal Safe Drinking Water Act.  This change has not affected the taste or purity of city water.

City Manager Bob Sisson approved the new standard as “an effective measure to reduce tooth decay and keep our drinking water safe for all our customers — especially the youngest ones.”
