Fairfax Grandmother Sentenced To 35 Years For Toddler's Death | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- A Fairfax County grandmother convicted of killing her own grandchild was sentenced to 35 years by a judge on Friday.
At Carmela Dela Rosa's sentencing Friday, 20 friends and family were in court to support Dela Rosa, who a jury found guilty of first degree murder in the death of two-year-old Angelyn Ogdoc in November of 2010. Dela Rosa threw the two-year-old off a pedestrian walkway at Tysons Corner, in front of the girl's parents
9News Now's Peggy Fox reports that Dela Rosa's attorney tried to get the guilty verdict dismissed, saying a prosecution witness was biased and lacked credibility. The judge denied the defense motion to dismiss the verdict.
Dela Rosa's attorneys failed to convince the jury she was insane at the time of the incident during her trial back in October. The jury has recommended a 35-year prison sentence.

The defense attorney added that the defense wanted, quote, "inaccuracies about throwing granddaughter to death in front of horrified daughter" removed.
In the end, the judge followed the jury's recommendation to sentence Dela Rosa to 35 years in prison. The judge called what she had done "almost beyond comprehension."
