Civil War Candlelight Tours at Sully

Take a wagon ride around the grounds and then tour the historic home of northern Virginia’s first congressman, Richard Bland Lee, by natural candlelight. Hear seasonal music, make an ornament to take home, and sample sugar cookies from a recipe in Sully’s open hearth cookbook. Enjoy this evening, set in the early years of the Civil War, with music by Evergreen Shade, firing the Christmas guns, and cooking in the open hearth kitchen. PREPAID RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Bull Run Regional Park Brings Residents the Festival of Lights

Bull Run Regional Park has transformed into a Christmas light wonderland. Come out and enjoy the Festival of Lights, and Winter Wonderland Holiday Village from now until January 9.

The Festival of Lights is a 2.5 mile drive-through display of more than 75,000 lights, with different scenes from your favorite disney movies, Santa Claus, toy soldiers, gingerbread men and more. The Festival of Lights is open from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and until 10 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays.

Once you finish driving through the lights you end at the Holiday village, which includes carnival games and rides, an ice skating rink and live entertainment. The village is open from 5:30-10 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

Bull Run Regional Park is located at 7700 Bull Run Drive in Centreville, VA. The cost is $15-$20 per car and carnival tickets are $1.25 or $16 for all you can ride.

FROSTIVAL is set to take place December 30, 2010 through January 2, 2011 at the Dulles Expo and Conference Center, 4368 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, Virginia. 

Home for Christmas: Concert by Voce Chamber Singers

Music and Christmas are inseparable, as Voce’s Christmas concerts demonstrate year after year. The choice of music for Christmas is endless; Voce has tried its best to do it all! This year, we draw music from past Christmas concerts, especially a cappella gems. As always, the audience will be invited to sing with us. Familiar carols will be heard and sung, as will contemporary songs like Jim Brickman’s Coming Home for Christmas and Faith Hill’s Where are you Christmas? Classical Christmas works on the program include O Magnum Mysterium by de Victoria, On this Starry Night by Matthew Harris, and the hauntingly beautiful Ave Maria by Biebl.

13 area Preschools to Donate Thanksgiving Dinners to Salvation Army

Preschool students from 12 Chesterbrook Academy locations in Northern Virginia and The Child Development Center at the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C., will donate 75 Thanksgiving dinners to the Salvation Army in Fairfax, Va., today.

Throughout the month of November, preschoolers have been collecting canned good items and Giant Food gift cards — which will be used to purchase the turkey — in order to provide 75 local families with a Thanksgiving dinner. Each dinner will be transported in a box decorated by the students.

The Salvation Army in Fairfax, Va., has an active force with a large range of programs designed to meet the needs of the less fortunate and work to meet the needs of people throughout their community in a variety of ways.

Public Hearing to Gather Input on Environmental Concerns

The Fairfax County Environmental Quality Advisory Council (EQAC) will hold a public hearing to solicit comments from interested parties on environmental issues of concern and on the state of the environment in Fairfax County.  The public hearing will be held on Monday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Auditorium, Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.
