Public Meeting Scheduled for Bicycle Master Plan

From Fairfax County Department of Transportation:

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, September 30, to discuss recommendations on how bicycle-friendly design should be incorporated into future roadway and transit projects and private developments. The plan creation will be divided into two phases with Phase I focusing on the Tysons Corner area. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Phase I meeting tomorrow from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Joyce Kilmer Middle School located at 8100 Wolftrap Road in Vienna, VA.

Center Without Walls Running and Walking Club

Come out and join the Center Without Walls Running and Walking Club! The class meets every Thursday at the Potomac River Running Store. The store is located at 5715 Burke Centre Parkway in Burke, VA. Burke Racquet and Swim Club Holiday Closures

Burke Racquet and Swim Club will be closed for repairs and renovations from August 30 to September 3 during the Labor Day holiday weekend. However, it will be open on Labor Day, September 6, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. So come on in this Labor Day to get your fitness on!

PR Running Store Holds All-Comer’s Group Run

The Potomac River Running Store holds group runs every Tuesday evening. This group run is lead by PR Running Store staff members and will begin at the PR store at 5715 Burke Centre Parkway in Burke, VA. The all-comer’s group run is a social run and is free to participate. This is a great way to add structure to your training schedule and meet some fellow runners! It is safe and open to all levels.

Come out for this low-key run if you are a beginner and run a mile or two. If you are an experienced, competitive runner then this is a great opportunity to do a fun, tempo run. The run will be no longer than 50 minutes and will go from the store to some various trails around Burke and back. The run will end at the PR Running Store around 7:30 p.m. If you have any questions, you can call the PR Running Store in Burke at 703-978-0500.

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball

Put Your Dancing Shoes On!

The Northern Virginia Country Western Dance Association holds dances on the first, third, and fifth Saturday of every month. The dances include line dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m. followed by couple’s specialty dancing at 8:00 p.m. Then a DJ plays for open dancing from 8:30-11:00 p.m.

The dance lessons are at Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church located at 10125 Lakehaven Court in Burke, VA. It is a non-smoking, non-drinking environment and families are welcome. No partners are required! For more information you can visit www.nvcwda.org or call 703-860-4941.

There will not be any dances on Labor Day weekend (September 4). However, the annual Anniversary Dance will be on September 18, so get ready to celebrate 24 years of NVCWDA at this special dance!
